In terms of image stabilization, we commonly see EIS (base on software algorithms and now widely supported in Savgood’s full line of products) and OIS (base on physical mechanism) functions. OIS is the feature we want to focus on today.
OIS function, the full name called Optical Image Stabilization, the term is nothing new, it has been widely used in consumer products such as comsumption-based digital cameras, mobile phones, and more others. However, it’s indeed a fresh word on ultra long range security camera field, for the serious standard on boundary application.
Let’s start by explaining how optical image stabilization works:
It’s principle is to detect the tiny movement through the gyroscope in the lens, and then transmit the signal to the microprocessor, the processor immediately calculates the amount of displacement that needs to be compensated, and then through the compensation lens group, according to the direction of lens shake and the amount of displacement to be compensated for.
This compensate could effectively overcome the blurry image caused by the vibration of the camera. — Clear and stable image quality even in shaky environments, which makes this feature even more important.
As mentioned, the application environment of the long range camera is mostly for border detection, sea defense, forest protection, etc., and the harsh environment makes it more necessary to achieve 7*24 hours of high-quality monitoring results. In response to this type of demand, OIS for ultra long range cameras was created, Based on optical stabilization principle, to equip cameras with lens-level optical stabilization, and introduces a set of compensating lenses that reverse the correction of the offset, thus reducing the shift in imaging.
The whole process is realized by measuring and sensing, controller calculation, and motor-driven compensation lens adjusting optical axis. The whole process needs to be within the exposure time, characterized by short detection time, fast signal processing and small lens compensation movement. In this way, the image effect can still be guaranteed with high quality under the environment such as wind blowing and shaking.
At present, to cope with the needs of different detection distances, we are supplying 58x(6.3-365mm) (the first OIS product published in the end of 2020), 52x(15-775mm)–3MP Global Shutter & 4MP one, 57x (15-850mm) solutions for selection.
In addition to the above modules, to fulfil the needs of different application scenarios, there are integrated visible + laser, visible + thermal imaging of side-loaded, top-loaded PTZ solutions available.
